Hiking the Lower Wekiva Preserve State Park

Are you looking for get out of the house this weekend?  Want something fun to do with the kids and you don’t have a lot of money?  I have the perfect solution.

Take the family on a day hike at Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park.  There are hiking trails at the south entrance of the park, located at 8300 W. State Road 46, Sanford.  The park offers a varies of trail lengths that will last anywhere from a 30 minute walk to an all day adventure.  The trails are well marked and the State Park services provides trail maps for visitors at the trail head.

The Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park is one of my favorite parks to hike in.  When my grandchildren visited from out-of-state, I wanted to provide a special memory of my favorite place for the kids.  Knowing that kids love games, I created a Photo Hunt game for them.  I gave the kids one of my older digital camera for them to use during the photo hunt.  They were given the lead to explore the trail and find as many items on the list as they could.

The Photo Hunt game was a big success.  The kids got a chance to get outdoor to have some exercise, explore nature, and have a chance to enjoy time with the family.
